5 Indicators That the Belize Real Estate Market is Heating Up

Located just 2-5 hours’ flying time from the United States, Belize is a small Central American country with hundreds of miles of coastline along the Caribbean Sea. A popular vacation and honeymoon destination, Belize is also rapidly growing as a real estate market thanks to low taxes, an English-speaking society, and zero restrictions on foreign ownership of land.

Here are 5 indicators that the Belize property market is heating up:

The New York Times

The “newspaper of record” has increasingly been focusing on Belize real estate, including publishing articles like House Hunting in Belize and feature stories about the gorgeous eco-resorts being built in the country.

Celebrity Interest

While still largely off the public’s radar, Belize is rapidly becoming the go-to destination for celebrities. Hollywood legends Leonard DiCaprio and Francis Ford Coppola have invested in Belize real estate, and the country been the vacation destination of famous people like the Trump daughters, NBA star Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles, singer Beyonce and her family, and even Dee Snyder, the lead singer of the group Twisted Sister.

Ongoing Developments

In order to accommodate the growing demand for prime real estate in Belize, sites like Cerros Sands on the Cerros Peninsula in northern Belize now offer expats and foreign investors the best of both worlds – access to the beautiful weather and unspoiled nature along with world-class infrastructure and amenities.

New Belize Flights

In the past year alone, Southwest Airlines has added three different non-stop flights to Belize from its bases in Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, and Houston. And WestJet, a low-cost Canadian carrier, began flying from Toronto to Belize during the winter 2015/16 season. After that proved to be hugely successful, WestJet has added a second route from Calgary, and now Air Canada, the world’s eighth-largest airline, will be flying to Belize starting in December 2017.

Sotheby’s and Christie’s

The world’s two most famous auction houses have recently created a separate real estate division to broker luxury properties, including real estate in Belize. While these properties are for very high net worth individuals, the presence of Sotheby’s and Christie’s in Belize is a clear indicator that the property market in Belize is red hot.

Cerros Sands

Located right on the shores of the beautiful Chetumal Bay across from Ambergris Caye, Cerros Sands is a master-planned, gated community ideal for expats and foreign investors. Developed by an American man who lives on site with his family, Cerros Sands has completed homes and waterfront lots starting as low as $27,700.
