The CBC, Canada’s national radio and television broadcaster, recently released their list of the top five adventure destinations in the world that should be added to everyone’s “bucket list.”
The CBC article promoted visiting both Belize and the Caribbean in order to enjoy great weather, delicious food, and exotic island getaway vacations. With a storied history of both English pirates and ancient Maya temples, Belize has plenty of cultural attractions for visitors.
Perhaps Belize’s greatest natural landmark is its vast offshore reef, part of the second-largest barrier reef system in the world. The Lighthouse Reef is home to the Great Blue Hole, a famous diving site that was rated by legendary French marine biologist Jacques Cousteau as one of the best places in the world for scuba diving.
The CBS report recommending visiting Belize comes on the heels of Air Canada, the largest airline in the country and the eighth-largest in the world, decision to begin flying non-stop from Toronto to Belize City on December 15, 2017. Air Canada joins rival WestJet, which has been flying non-stop to Belize from Toronto and Calgary since October 2016.
A true Caribbean gem, Belize is a small country located just south of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. As a former British colony, Belize’s national language is English, and the country has a stable, parliamentary democracy based on the British model.
As the tourism market continues to heat up, the Belizean government has been taking active measures to protect the environment. In late 2017, the Belizean parliament passed a law that will prohibit all exploration or exploitation of oil from the reef. It is estimated that the reef brings some $200 million in income every year.
The CBC report recommending visiting Belize is just one more example of the growing attention being focused on this small country of unspoiled landscapes. Major media publications such as Fodor’s, the New York Times, the Rough Guides, Lonely Planet, and National Geographic have also recommended visiting Belize in 2018.
One of the best places to live or retire in Belize is Cerros Sands. A true “community in the country,” Cerros Sands is a master-planned, gated, self-sustainable community built on green principles.
Cerros Sands has finished homes and a limited number of waterfront lots still available. And if you act before April 1, 2018, you can qualify for CerrosSands‘ Fly and Buy Program that will reimburse up to $2,000 in travel-related expenses for individuals who buy property in the community.
