In 2016, WestJet was the first Canadian airline to offer direct flights to Belize. Originally flying only from Toronto to Belize City. Now, WestJet has just announced that it will begin flying non-stop from Calgary (YYC) to Belize City (BZE) starting on November 3, 2017. One of the fastest-growing expat communities in Belize is in Corozal District, the northernmost section of the country along the border with Mexico. Corozal is located right across the sparkling waters of the Chetumal Bay from the tourist resort island of Ambergris Caye. Favored by winds from northern latitudes that keep insects and humidity at bay, Corozal has successfully managed to hang onto its old-world charm with lovely sidewalk cafes, a public library, and several churches.
Perhaps the greatest benefits to expats living in Corozal is that the Mexican border is just a few miles away. Mexico, being a highly industrialized nation and NAFTA member, has familiar low-cost retailers like Walmart and Sam’s Club. Furthermore, the Mexican border state of Quintana Roo is home to world-class health care facilities and an international airport (Cancun), giving Corozal residents even more low-cost options for staying in touch with family, friends, and business interests back home.
With the latest announcements from the airlines and record numbers of tourists visiting the country every year, now is the right time to invest in prime property in Belize.
