Air Canada, the eight-largest airline in the world by passenger volume and the country’s flagship carrier, announced on May 3, 2017, that it will be adding six new international routes, including a non-stop flight from Toronto to Belize beginning on December 15, 2017. The new non-stop route will depart Toronto’s Pearson International Airport (YYZ) once a week for the Philip Goldson International Airport in Belize City (YYZ) and run from December 15, 2017, until April 13, 2018. The Toronto-Belize City flight will be on Air Canada’s Airbus A319 (Rouge configuration) aircraft that can accommodate up to 137 passengers.
One of Air Canada’s domestic competitors, WestJet Airlines, has been operating a non-stop flight from Toronto’s Pearson International Airport to Belize City since October 2016. Industry insiders expect that increased competition for the growing Canada-Belize market will benefit travelers with reduced ticket prices and greater scheduling flexibility.
“We heartily welcome Air Canada’s entrance into the hot Belize travel market,” said the management team of Cerros Sands. “Increased competition and more options for Canadians to vacation, retire, and invest in Belize is fantastic news for our expat community. With property prices expected to rise, now it will be easier than ever for Canadians interested in investing or living in Belize to come visit.”
Belize is a small country in Central America located between Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula and Guatemala. With more than 200 miles of coastline on the Caribbean, hundreds of offshore islands, and a diverse interior that includes mountains, waterfalls, fertile plains, pristine rainforest, and lush jungles teeming with wildlife offer Canadians and other expats a chance to enjoy outdoor living at its finest.
Long a British colony and currently a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, Belize is the only country in the region where English is the official language. The government of Belize warmly welcomes Canadians and other foreigners and imposes no restrictions on buying, selling, or renting property. The government of Belize’s QRP program generously allows qualifying individuals and their families to easily obtain residency, import personal goods tax-free (including cars, boats, and light aircraft), and imposes no taxes on income or businesses operated outside of Belize.
Cerros Sands is a master-planned, gated community located in Belize’s northern Corozal District. Just a few miles from both the tourist hotspot of Ambergris Caye and the Mexican border town of Chetumal, home to familiar low-cost retailers like Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club, Cerros Sands has completed homes and waterfront lots available starting at just $25,000.
