The Belize Weather – Another reason why people choose to retire in Belize

With year-round balmy temperatures and plenty of sunshine, it’s pretty obvious why the weather in Belize is one of the country’s biggest attractions. In terms of climate, probably the best place in Belize is Corozal District in the north along the border with Mexico. Corozal District has the same warm temperatures as elsewhere in Belize but only receives about 60 inches of rain a year, about the same as Florida. As you move further south in Belize, the rain increases up to twice that in Placencia and 180 inches in Punta Gorda. Corozal District also benefits from refreshing breezes from more temperate latitudes that clear away humidity.

Below is a summary of the Belize weather by month:

January

Daytime highs: 80°F (27°C)
Nighttime lows: 70°F (21°C)

Generally dry with clear sunny skies.

February

Daytime highs: 80°F (27°C)
Nighttime lows: 70° (21°C)

Very mild days with refreshing cool nights.

March

Daytime highs: 83°F (28°C)
Nighttime lows: 74°F (23°C)

The height of the dry season, with clear skies and balmy temperatures.

April

Daytime highs: 85°F (29°C)
Nighttime lows: 76°F (24°C)

The month marks the onset of the “Iguana Rains,” the local term for brief showers in the early morning that cool breezes along the coast. April is otherwise generally sunny and pleasantly warm.

May

Daytime highs: 87°F (31°C)
Nighttime lows: 79°F (26°C)

Occasional thunderstorms at night but otherwise sunny and hot during the day.

Daytime highs: 86°F (31°C)
Nighttime lows: 82°F (28°C)

Look for rainfall most mornings and the occasional thunderstorm at night. Days are generally sunny and hot.

August

Daytime highs: 86°F (30°C)
Nighttime lows: 78°F (26°C)

Known locally as the “Little Dry” period when winds from the west bring warmer temperatures and a pause from the rainy season.

September

Daytime highs: 86°F (30°C)
Nighttime lows: 77°F (25°C)

Abundant rainfall at night and in the early mornings, but the day brings warm temperatures and generally sunny skies.

Nighttime lows: 79°F (26°C)

Expect winds from the north that bring abundant rainfall with daytime temperatures that are refreshingly cool.

November

Daytime highs: 76°F (24°C)
Nighttime lows: 73°F (23°C)

November is a transition month with rains tapering off as the dry season begins. The “coldest” month of the year, relatively speaking.

December

Daytime highs: 80°F (27°C)
Nighttime lows: 71°F (22°C)

Lovely daytime sun mixes with refreshingly cool nights to make the weather extremely pleasant.
