September Celebrations Prove Belize Is Becoming a Hot Travel & Retirement Destination

The September Celebrations that take place all month long truly highlight the spectacular progress that this gem of a nation has made in the past 38 years. With more than a third of the country set aside as protected park land and nature reserves, a stable government dedicated to internal improvements, and a strong focus on sustainable tourism practices, Belize is an up and coming travel and retirement destination.

September Celebrations

Since gaining full independence from Great Britain in 1981, Belize has co-opted the entire month of September as one big patriotic celebration. Parades, live music concerts, barbecues, street dancing, and festivals in every town and village are the perfect opportunity for Belizeans from home and abroad to join their friends and family in celebrating Belize’s history, heritage, and culture.

It kicks off with The Queen of the Bay competitions throughout each district of Belize, consummating with Queen of the Bay for Belize.

September 10 is St. George’s Caye Day, a national holiday to commemorate the 1798 naval battle that saw Britain victorious over the Spanish. And the patriotic festivities kick into high gear on September 21, Independence Day, with explosions of red, white, and blue (the national colors), recitals of poems, songs, and a celebration of all things Belize.

Since independence, the government has poured millions of dollars into improving infrastructure, providing world-class healthcare, comprehensive education, and protecting and conserving Belize’s wildlife and flora, enticing many expats to retire in the country.

Every year, Belize receives more visitors from its busy land crossings, international airport in Belize City, and cruise ships. As more and more people have discovered the beautiful weather, the growing economy, a peaceful and democratic government, and a reliable system of property laws adjudicated in English, the time to visit and invest in Belize is now.

Cerros Sands

Cerros Sands, located on the beautiful Cerros Peninsula in the beautiful Corozal District of northern Belize, is a prestigious, master-planned waterfront community. Cerros Sands has completed properties as well as attractive seafront, beachfront, and channel access parcels available for purchase.

With attractive retirement programs that include generous exemptions from import duties and taxes, fabulous weather, world-class healthcare and rapidly improving infrastructure, Belize is one of the best places to retire and invest.
