Residents of the Upper Midwest of the United States will soon have a brand-new option for enjoying a getaway vacation to sunny Belize. Beginning on December 22, 2018, Sun Country Airlines will be flying once per week from its hub in Minneapolis-St. Paul (code: MSP) to the Philip S.W. Goldson Airport in Belize City (code: BZE).
Sun Country is a leading low-cost airline in the Upper Midwest that flies to 70 warm-weather destinations across Central America and the Caribbean, now including Belize. The new Sun Country route to Belize will operate every Saturday throughout the 2018/19 winter season until April 20, 2019. The new route will make Minneapolis the 10th airport in the United States with non-stop service to Belize, joining cities such as Denver, Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Miami, and Ft. Lauderdale. WestJet and Air Canada also fly to Belize from their hubs in Calgary and Toronto.
Sun Country’s announcement comes less than a month after other airlines also announced brand-new routes to Belize. Aeromexico, the flag carrier of Mexico, will be flying between Mexico City and Belize City this winter, and COPA Airlines, the flag carrier of Panama, has just signed a new interline agreement with Belize’s Tropic Air to allow for continuing journeys in Belize without having to purchase a separate ticket or re-check luggage.
All these new flights are proof positive that Belize is becoming a red-hot destination for family vacations, honeymoons, weddings, and adventure travel. Belize is regularly in the news as celebrities like Leonardo DiCaprio and Francis Ford Coppola have opened luxury resorts in the country and everyone from British royals to Olympic athletes has been spotted enjoying vacations in Belize. The latest celebrity to announce involvement with Belize is Sir Richard Branson, who will be piloting his own personal submarine later this year to map the depths of the Belize Blue Hole.
As the tourist market heats up in Belize, so too has the property market begun to experience a rapid uptick. Expats, investors, and retirees are increasingly moving to Belize, attracted by the year-round warm weather, the ease of speaking English (the official language of Belize), and extremely low taxes.
One of the finest places to invest in real estate in Belize or retire is Cerros Sands, a true “community in the country” located in Corozal District on the shores of Chetumal Bay. CerrosSands has homes, condominiums, and land parcels available starting at just $17,700.
