Where Should You Retire? Mexico vs. Belize

If you are approaching retirement and have been trying to decide where you would like to live during your golden years, you should strongly consider Central America as an option. Mexico and Belize, in particular, are popular retirement destinations for people from America and Canada. But which one of these two countries is right for you?

When considering a place to retire to, population density should always play a role in your decision. After all, you don’t want to live in a crowded environment during your golden years. Instead, you want plenty of space to relax in and enjoy some peace and quiet. With this in mind, it is worth noting that Belize’s population density of 37 people per square mile is the lowest in the region. For comparison, Mexico’s population density sits at 57 people per square mile.

Of course, no matter where you choose to retire to, you will undoubtedly want to be able to speak to the locals and make friends. However, this can sometimes be a little tricky if you are an American or Canadian living in a primarily Spanish-speaking nation such as Mexico. Luckily, though, it is much easier to communicate with people in Belize. That’s because both English and Spanish are widely spoken by the Belizean people. A major issue is Mexico unless you are like 30 miles from the sea holds your property in a bank trust where as Belize issues you a Fee Simple Title.

Belize is also home to some beautiful natural phenomenon that you just won’t find in Mexico. Tourists and locals alike are always especially impressed by the stunning Belize Barrier Reef. This magnificent natural wonder is located around 1,000 feet off the coast of Belize and is home to more than 500 different species of fish. It is the second longest reef of its kind in the entire world – trailing only the Great Barrier Reef. If you are at all interested in marine life, Belize is truly the place to be.

If Belize sounds like your perfect retirement destination, you will no doubt want to find a place to live. Cerros Sands is the perfect spot. This gated community is located in Corozal, Belize – on Corozal Bay. Its location in Northern Belize makes it easy to travel to Mexico for a vacation or to go shopping and its thriving community of American and Canadian retirees will mean that you will have no trouble making friends and fitting in. Whether you want to buy an existing home or build a house on the parcel of your choice, Cerros Sands is the perfect community for you.
